RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

The main activity of Avantea is  research and development in the field of advanced reproductive biotechnologies. This activity takes place in the context of several national and international research projects. Two are the core areas of interest: livestock reproduction and biomedical research. For the former the species of greatest importance are  cattle and buffalo. Fertility improvement and reproduction of superior genotypes,  also applying genomics, are the constant target of livestock research.

Biomedical research is focused on three main areas which are animal models, stem cells and development of toxicity tests. Pig is the species of interest with regard to the generation of animal models of human diseases, for itssimilarity to humans from a physiological point of view . The field of stem cells concerns different livestock species and different sources of cells for basic research or  for experimental cell therapy. For toxicological testing, gametes and cattle embryos are the main cellular models for the detection of chemical induced reproductive toxicity.

During nearly two decades, Avantea has developed a wide range of assisted reproductive services aimed to breeders, owners and professionals involved in breeding of livestock and sporting animals. The characteristic of these services is to provide greater flexibility in the choice of the most suitable reproductive technologies to be used within the farm or for selected individuals. Assisted reproduction also allows to overcome many of the causes of infertility, that restricts the reproduction of top animals with more conventional techniques.

The species of interest are horse, cattle, buffalo and pig.

In addition to assisted reproductive services Avantea provides embryos, that are the products of the same technologies, mainly of cattle and buffalo species, of various breeds and genetic background. Embryos can be produced on request, especially ifhigh numbers are needed, based on prior agreements.

All Avantea embryos are obtained  in compliance with national and international health standards and can be marketed both in Italy and abroad.
